Further talks required
AN application for a commercial developments at Inverurie was deferred by members of the Garioch Area Committee on Tuesday this week to allow further negotiation over the size and location of the main building with the applicant.
The application by David Rennie of Rennie Enterprises, Blackburn, had previously been deferred to allow members to visit the site at Inverurie Business Park.
The plan would see a workshop and associated offices, car parking and a service yard being built at the former Scottish Water Depot on Burghmuir Place at Inverurie Business Park.
The application generated six letters of representation expressing concerns of increased noise, the damage to the rooting system of existing trees, that the new building would dominate the landscape, insufficient space for loading and movement of trailers and the need for the building to be sympathetic with the surrounding area.
With regards to the impact on the trees to the north of the site, which were originally planted to screen the industrial development from the neighbouring housing, the Planning Service insist that they are kept and not be affected by proposed development.
Committee chairman and Inverurie and District councillor Martin Kitts-Hayes said that the main issue was the scale of the building and the issue of loss of light on neighbouring properties.
East Garioch councillor Martin Ford commented that it was an application for an industrial building on an industrial site and as such it was not against council policy, noting the only issue was the loss of amenity to neighbouring properties.
Councillor Kitts-Hayes moved to defer the application for further negotiations, to see if the building could be reduced in height, or moved within the site. Failing that he requested “sun path” diagrams be provided to gauge impact on neighbouring properties. This was seconded by Westhill and District Councillor Ron McKail.
