New member admitted to Garioch Probus Club
PRESIDENT George Cadenhead welcomed members to the latest meeting of Garioch Probus Club. Ranald Allan was admitted to club membership and was then introduced by member Eric Rae as guest speaker.
For his talk, Mr Allan chose the work of Inverurie Environmental Improvement Group, of which he is chairman.
Set up in 2002, the group has worked on various projects to make Inverurie a more attractive place to citizens and visitors alike. In this regard, floral decoration in the form of hanging baskets has proved very successful, no fewer than 172 being place in the 2011 season.
A hard-working team of volunteers has contributed much to the success of this venture, as well as generous sponsorship by Inverurie businesses, and help from the local council. The group is also responsible for organising the popular annual competition for “Best Gardens in Inverurie”.
Mr Allan also spoke about various other environmental projects in hand - guide maps, riverside walks - but stressed the constant need to get volunteers to help with these projects.
Mr Allan’s interesting and revealing talk was well received by Probus members, on whose behalf Ken Tough gave the vote of thanks.
