Petition in support of Gateway
Kintore

A PETITION with more than 1,000 signatures has been handed over to local councillors by Kintore and District Community Council.
The petition, addressed to Aberdeenshire Council, calls on the local authority to bring forward the Gateway Kintore proposal for a decision.
As was previously reported in the Herald, a masterplan for the proposed Gateway Kintore development in Kintore was handed over to Aberdeenshire Council planners earlier this month
The plan for the 31-acre site adjacent to the Broomhill Roundabout in Kintore incorporates a supermarket, filling station, 100-bedroom hotel, restaurants, nursery, community facilities, play barn and business premises.
The Gateway Kintore masterplan also incorporates an upgrade of the Broomhill roundabout on the A96, retaining direct access to Kintore for traffic heading north on the A96 from Aberdeen.
Alternative plans from the roads authority propose diverting traffic across a new link road to join the B944 Kemnay road.
The three East Garioch councillor’s who represent Kintore, Nan Cullinane, Martin Ford and Fergie Hood were invited to receive the petition from Kevin Watt, chair of Kintore and District Community Council.
Although garnering considerable local support and the support of Kintore Community Council, a note of caution regarding the petition was sounded by East Garioch councillor Martin Ford who told the Herald that any development would have to follow the due process for planning permission as per the council’s set procedures.
He said that the developer of the proposed site would have to either bid to have it included into the local plan in an open and transparent manner or submit a planning application which would be considered in exactly the same way as any other application.
He stressed that all applications, no matter the size and scale of the development are all treated in the same fair and transparent way and are open to objections by members of the local community.
