Community kitchen is hailed a success

The new community training kitchen, which officially opened its doors at the Wyness hall last week, has been hailed a huge success.

The facility aims to bring practical cookery skills back into the community together with messages about healthy eating. The training kitchen welcomes all ages and groups of people, from all over Grampian, whatever their skill level, and is also available for hire by individuals wishing to run their own courses as well as delivering The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) accredited food hygiene and nutrition courses. These are for anyone who wishes to improve their skills and increase their knowledge.

Speaking about the opening, Garioch Area Committee chairman, Councillor Martin Kitts-Hayes said: “It’s fantastic to see the project take shape after months of hard work by partners to bring it together and I commend everyone involved. It’s sure to be a recipe for success.”

Janette Gascoine, who is a Kitchen Development Worker, added: “We’ve not stopped all day. We’ve had 130 groups come through the door to find out what the facility is like. We’ve run food workshops throughout the day and various local agencies have been here to promote their services. The feedback we’ve had today has been very positive with comments like “fantastic”, “great venue” and “great community resource”.”

To find out more about the resource, to hire the community kitchen, or to sign up for a course, contact Janette Gascoine on 07841 025176.
