Magpie Shop helps the community

The dining room set up at the Magpie Shop, Inverurie was quickly snapped up

During November and December Magpie in Inverurie will continue to do what it does best and recycle donations received in its shop from the local community as well as furniture and furnishings no longer required from the local community.

Magpie’s van can regularly be seen picking up furniture generously donated from the community and delivering reused and good quality goods giving them a new lease of life back to that same community.

Last week, Shonagh Thom and her staff and volunteers at the Magpie shops in Blackhall Industrial Estate in Inverurie set themselves the challenge of pretty much furnishing a house with what they had in stock from their donations.

The result was a living room, dining room and bedroom to be proud of. Unfortunately Magpie’s premises are too small to keep the room settings on display all the time but these rooms can effectively be purchased for as little as £200 or £250 pounds and in the current economic climate this is a potentially superb offer.

“It just takes a little bit of imagination to turn all the individual elements into a room setting and when we did that with the dining room we had an instant buyer for the lot,” Shonagh said.

Magpie exists primarily to promote the re-use of furniture, clothes, bric-a-brac and household goods. It directly reduces the amount of waste going to landfill sites by selling on goods to the community. It also helps those in real need by providing free furniture and household goods as well as providing employment opportunities for those finding it difficult to either return to work of to start work.

“We have a constant need for unwanted furniture, beds, domestic appliances, household goods, clothes and bric-a-brac which we can revitalise and reuse,” Shonagh added.

Magpie is always looking for additional volunteers to join its small and very friendly team and if you want to assist a valuable community charity then they would be delighted to hear from you.

If anyone is able to volunteer for a morning (10am until 1pm) or an afternoon (1pm until 4pm) then please visit the shop or call (01467) 268087. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

“As we get closer to Christmas and to either make your own money go further or to provide others with good quality furniture and other items please consider donating goods or buying items from Magpie,” Shonagh said. “Even if we don’t have entire rooms set up, we have lots of great stuff on sale.”

Magpie can be contacted on (01467) 268087 or at magpie@cvsa.co.uk.
