A NEW volunteer Fundraising Group has launched in Garioch to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Garioch Fundraising Group met at The Acorn Centre to celebrate the formal launch of the group before holding their first business meeting to start planning their activity.

The Garioch Fundraising Group will raise vital funds so Marie Curie Nurses can continue to provide free care to people with terminal illnesses, through supporting Marie Curie’s major fundraising campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal and Blooming Great Tea Party, as well as promoting fundraising within the local community and encouraging new supporters to help the charity.

Roxanne Hadley, Community Fundraiser at Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “The new Fundraising Group in Garioch will make a huge difference locally by helping to raise the vital funds needed to support Marie Curie Nurses, who provide free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes.

The group said , “As a group we wish to increase awareness of the amazing palliative work carried out by Marie Curie nurses and carers to make the lives of the terminally ill more comfortable. At no cost to the individual Marie Curie care is available in the person’s home 24/7 and provides advice, emotional support and practical hands on care to people with a terminal illness. This care is available not only for those with cancer but for any disease in the terminal stages, no matter the diagnosis. As volunteer fundraisers we are grateful and indebted to those willing to support such a worthy cause”.
