In preparation for Scotland’s Single Police force which begins operating on April 1 next year, one of the four appointed Deputy Chief Constables visited Inverurie last Tuesday (December 11).

DCC Rose Fitzpatrick, who has the responsibility for Territorial Policing, came to Inverurie to talk to the officers and staff who deliver local policing in the community “day in, day out”. She said: “ I want to identify the good practice that takes place throughout Scotland to help shape the service we deliver in the future.

DCC Fitzpatrick’s role will lead local policing around Scotland, working with communities, she said, “to keep people safe”. She has served in a number of Deputy Assistant Commissioner posts in the Metropolitan Police Service including territorial policing, and was most recently responsible for corporate development functions there.

Chief Constable of Grampian Police, Colin McKerracher was pleased to welcome her to Inverurie at such an early stage in the transition process.

Speaking of her visit, he said: “I’m sure it was valuable for her to see the excellent work currently being delivered by officers and civilian staff, including the local policing model, which has helped bring policing closer to the community and push crime rates down.

“A positive and constructive handover process will be an important element of the transition to a single Scottish police force, to ensure strong service delivery is maintained and improved upon into the future.

“I and my whole team at Grampian Police are determined to do everything possible to support this process and ensure a smooth transition to the single force in our area.”

The new interim police HQ will at the Scottish Police College in Tulliallan in Fife.
