THE future of two Inverurie hotels is believed to be secure, following the collapse of the company that owned the businesses, writes Jenna Hall.
The Kintore Arms Hotel and Thainstone House Hotel were both part of the Swallow Hotels and Inns chain, owned by London and Edinburgh Swallow Group.
Along with five of its subsidiary companies, the group, one of Britain's largest hotel and pub chain
s, went into administration last Thursday (September 14), putting thousands of jobs at risk.
Swallow Chairman Alan Bowes bought the name and 13 core hotels from Whitbread in 2003.
The last few years have seen the rapid growth of the business, which had a total of 152 hotels and more than 500 pubs across the UK under its name, including the prestigious Carnoustie Hotel and Golf Club, before the company went under.
However, by the end of last week, over a third of the Swallow Group's assets were rescued by a property company based in London.
Administrators from Ernst & Young, who are dealing with the collapse of the chain, announced the sale of 240 of the company's properties to Flodrive Group.
The deal is thought to have included the Kintore Arms Hotel.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson from Thainstone House Hotel was able to confirm on Tuesday (September 19) that a positive announcement regarding the business would be made within the next few days.
The spokesperson added: "The hotel's future is assured with the right operator."
