SCOTLAND'S best potted meat comes from Inverurie, it has been announced.
At the awards ceremony following the recent Potted Meat Evaluation, organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders, Davidsons Specialist Butcher of Inverurie was named the country's best potted meat makers.
The company had already won the N
orth of Scotland regional title. Following this, the regional winners were mystery shopped and brought together to be judged by the specialist food group at Food Innovation@Abertay in Dundee.
The experts at Abertay used their sensory analysis techniques to select the overall winner. The Davidsons version impressed the judges in what was the first ever evaluation for potted meat.
John Davidson and Jim Beagrie from Davidsons were presented with the Scottish title award at Inverness Caledonian Thistle's Stadium on Monday, May 26. They received the award from Douglas Scott, chief executive of the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders.
Mr Scott said: "Scottish craft butchers have a tradition of supplying quality products and the presentation of these awards serves as a reminder to customers that your local butcher is really the only place to buy your meat."
