A work of art in line for Kemnay

A NEW housing development in Kemnay will feature the work of a leading visual artist.

Moray-based Mary Bourne has been chosen to create the art which will form the centrepiece of the Cairn View scheme consisting of 54 two, three, four and five-bedroom family homes.

The project is being developed by Huntly-based Deveron Homes and the company’s sales director Lynn Holburn said: “Cairn View is a flagship development with very distinctive architecture. Enhancing our residents’ quality of life is important and we are delighted to be providing a peaceful, open space featuring a piece of public art as a centrepiece.”

She added: “Mary Bourne was chosen from a list of potential candidates as her ideas best reflected the cultural and historic character of Kemnay, as well as the village’s future aspirations and changing form.

“A key element of the design will be to create an art feature that will resonate with local people and promote pride in their community.

“The project also hopes to maximise community involvement by linking with local school pupils to explore the subjects of design and public art.”

Mary Bourne, who is based near Dufftown, has extensive experience in creating art for the public to enjoy, with natural stone her favoured medium. Her previous clients range from Dundee City Council to the city of Nanao in Japan.

She said: “Kemnay is famous for its granite. I hope we will be able to explore the area’s tradition of skill in this beautiful material to make an artwork that everyone will be able to enjoy.”

Prices for the Cairn View development start at £199,950.”
