Ellon sporano to hit the high notes at Haddo

Young Ellon soprano, Kirsty Henderson is set to take centre stage in Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Patience’ this Easter, for which tickets are now on sale.

21 year old Kirsty, who attended Ellon Academy and is now at Aberdeen University in her final year of a history of art degree, is to play the title role – an innocent milk maid unimpressed by the attentions of the poet Reginald Bunthorne.

Kirsty who also played ‘ Phyllis’ in ‘Iolanthe’ in the last Gilbert and Sullivan production at Haddo said: “Patience is quite different from the other characters in the operetta, as she is a milkmaid who has never been in love and doesn’t understand it. I am going to play her with a slightly ‘sassy’ manner which should contrast well with the other girls.”

The fast paced and traditionally staged show is directed by Jennie Chalmers and the beautiful melodic score will be conducted by Alice Dennis with the professional Haddo Orchestra. It also stars Oliver Clarke from the Royal College of Music as Bunthorne, Matt Dennis as rival poet Grosvenor, and Blair Smith as the Colonel in charge of the male chorus of soldiers, recently spurned when the ladies’ attention shifted to Bunthorne. Newcomer Toto Coxe is to play the battle axe Lady Jane and is showing a great talent for comic acting, especially in her aria ‘Sad is a Woman’s lot’, mournfully accompanying herself on the ‘cello.

‘Patience’ is on April 12th, 13th and 14th at 7.30pm at Haddo House Hall. Tickets £18 and £15 (concessions). Primary aged kids just £9 and discounts are available of block bookings of more than 5 people.
