Festive fun in New Deer

On Tuesday December 11 at 7.30pm, Wildbird Theatre Company are bringing their latest show, ‘Dreich House, Adventure Holidays for Children that Nobody Loves’, to New Deer Public Hall.

The play tells the story of Ruby Love, abandoned at Christmas by her cold yet glamorous mother as she is sent to Dreich House, a forbidding castle in the Gloomgorm Mountains for a Christmas holiday unlike any other. The wicked Lord Boltfast, the tartan Spartan and the castle’s hapless owner, has gathered together unloved children from all over the country to execute a dastardly plan to hold the world to ransom on Christmas Day. In the tradition of stories by Roald Dahl or more recently Lemony Snicket, “A Series of Unfortunate Events”, Dreich House pits children against adults in a Christmas comedy of love, friendship and stale meat pies.

Earlier this year Wildbird auditioned for youth cast members aged 8 months to 15 years from the North East and Highlands to play Ruby and the Dreich House kids. The chosen ones were then filmed in the Easter Holidays to make a green screen film which has been combined with digital animation and live theatre to create the finished multimedia one man production that puts the young cast at the heart of the action.

Sue Robertson, Promoter said “This show promises something really different for families and children over 6 years old this festive season, an unforgettable theatre experience that combines live theatre and storytelling with film and animation. Don’t delay in getting your tickets at £9 & £7 from Chemist or Food for Thought, New Deer.”
