Fundraising Ball a great success
LAST year Garioch Amateur Swimming Club held their first ever Fundraising Ball at the “VENUE” Garioch Sports Centre. The event was such a success that the Club held another fundraiser on Saturday (September 15).
The organiser and Club Vice-President David Adams said that the club wanted to celebrate both its recent successes and that of its star swimmer, local girl Hannah Miley, whose fantastic achievements resulted in her being a three times London Olympic 2012 finalist.
Over 160 guests had a very enjoyable evening, with photographs being taken on arrival, a question and answer session with Hannah followed by a fun themed Olympic quiz ‘GOLD or NOT’.
The event was also honoured to have the swimming club’s Head Coach Patrick Miley in attendance fresh from being announced as Scottish Swimming Coach of the Year and from his duties as one of the Olympic Swimming Team coaches. There were various awards, medals and trophies of Hannah’s achievements from over her competitive career on display for all to see. The evening was accompanied by an excellent meal from “Harry Fraser” with a nail biting auction, which alone raised £2650. The evening was rounded off with music from the live band “The Limit”, who ensured that the dance floor was never empty.
The club’s President Courtney O’Grady thanked David Adams and all those who helped support the Ball including many businesses, shops and companies and commented on the fact that the support was “so overwhelming”. The club now look forward to planning next year’s event and plan to make it an even bigger and better extravaganza.
The Club would like to thank Donside Frames, Bancon Developments, Stuart Gordon, First For Aid Ltd, Garioch Sports Centre, MS Joinery, Central Investments, Oldmeldrum Golf Club, Inverurie Golf Club, RED SKY Management, First Photographics Kintore, and Ross County FC. Thanks also go to Carols “CLUB” Charity Fund – TECHNIP for their generous £1000 donation, S&D Fabrications for their £250 donation, to ‘CP & CO’ for all the printing, banners and menus at very reasonable prices and to everyone for their kind raffle donations.
