Legendary classics coming to His Majesty’s Theatre

New shows announced for His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen include two gems of British theatre, national and local dance productions and a children’s all-time favourite.

The arts company which runs the city-centre theatre, Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA), unveiled the upcoming line-up.

The two top dramas heading the city’s way include Willy Russell’s unforgettable play Educating Rita (June 11 to 16), starring Matthew Kelly and Claire Sweeney in the story of the relationship between a feisty Liverpudlian hairdresser and a jaded university professor.

The second is the first UK tour of a British theatre legend – the record-breaking Box Office smash hit thriller The Mousetrap (Feb 25 to March 2, 2013), as part of the landmark whodunnit’s 60th anniversary.

It is the world’s longest-running stage show, with more than 24,000 performances, and a great piece of theatrical history, a stage version of a novel by the most famous crime writer of all time, Agatha Christie.

Aberdeen-born choreographer Michael Clark Company’s critically acclaimed production come, been and gone, coming to HMT for one night only on Tuesday, June 5, is made primarily to the music of David Bowie and also embraces the work of key collaborators, Lou Reed and Brian Eno.
