It's full steam ahead with plans for this summer's steam and vintage fair at Castle Fraser, near Kemnay

It is a case of full steam ahead for a popular summertime vintage rally in Aberdeenshire.

Castle Fraser has hosted the steam and vintage fair since 2004. It is held over two days in June in association with the Bon Accord Steam Engine Club.

Exhibitors, collectors and enthusiasts travel from throughout the UK to attend the event, which attracts around 30 steam engines, more than 80 tractors, fairground organs, steam lorries, vintage cars, lorries, classic cars, steam saw mills and motorbikes.

Plans for this year’s fair were progressed at a recent meeting of club officials. Around 600 exhibitors are expected.

Chairman Sam Barrack said the event will have a funfair theme this time. which should have wide appeal.

He added: “This year will be our 42nd event and we aim to make it a fun day out for all the family.

“We’ve decided on a funfair theme and will have vintage chair-o-planes from the Black Isle and hope to have a carousel of galloping horses there as well.

“Last year the weather was poor on the Saturday but improved for us on the Sunday and we had around 12,000 visitors over the two days.”

The fair will be held on June 16 and 17 at Castle Fraser. a National Trust for Scotland property, near Kemnay.

There will be a full programme of attractions for all the family including a dog and duck show, children’s rides, games and one of the highlights of the rally - a spectacular parade of vintage vehicles.

The site has a large car park and caravans are welcome at the event.

The Bon Accord Steam Engine Club is made up of engine owners and enthusiasts in the North-east. In addition to the annual rally, the club holds several social events throughout the year.
