PROCEEDS from a local darts competition were handed over to Breast Cancer Care this week.
The competition was organised by local postie Graham Watson and was held in Inverurie Loco Works Social Club on Saturday, May 31. It raised more than £1,600 for the charity and Graham met Ann Hudson of Breast Cancer Care this Monday (August 4) to mak
e the official presentation.
It was the third year in a row that Graham had organised a darts tournament, with the 2008 event being the most successful yet. As well as the ladies' and gents' tournaments, a raffle and auction were held.
The event raised £1,182 and a donation from Royal Mail took the total to more than £1,600.
The gents' competition was this year sponsored by SCOTVQ, with Hi Fry and Les Stuart Joinery sponsoring the ladies' tournament. Graham is already planning a fourth competition next year.
He said: "Niall Thow of Fetternear Fruit has agreed to be a sponsor at next year's competition, which will probably be held around the same time next year."
Breast Cancer Care aims to "make a significant and meaningful difference to the lives of people affected by breast cancer or with breast health concerns through the provisions of high quality, innovative, responsive services and by campaigning for excellence in breast cancer treatment and care".
Each year the charity gives direct support to over 22,000 people with breast cancer or breast health concerns through a helpline, peer support and other direct services.
