FIRST Minister and MSP for Gordon, Alex Salmond attended a reception last Friday (February 8) at Inverurie Town Hall held by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) Scottish Northern Branch.
Mr Salmond presented members with the 2007 Service and Merit honours awarded by RLSS UK in recognition of the work and service of their volunteers.
He said: "I never cease to be amazed at the number of volunteers in the area. I would like to than
k all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication to life saving."
The Society's convener Denise Patterson, and recipient of the 2nd Bar to Service Medal in recognition of 30 years of service commented: "The Royal Life Saving Society is able to carry out its work in educating and training people to prevent accidents and save lives as a result of the dedication given by our volunteers."
Recipients of the Service Honours were: Certificate of Thanks (four and eight years of service) - Kerry Adam, Greg Binns, Stuart Carnegie, Danny Costello, Ewan Lyle, Jane Tosh, Scott Smart; Service Medal (12 years' service) - Helen Clark, Roy Haynes, David McKelvie; Bar to Service Medal (16 years service) - Carl Boyd, Gary Routledge; Service Cross (20 years' service) - Lindsay MacDonald, Seonaid McLaren; 2nd Bar to Service Medal (30 years' service) - Denise Patterson.
Merit Honours were awarded to: Certificate of Merit (meritorious service) - George Douglas, Ewan Lyle, Allan May, Scott Smart, Wilma Souter; Certificate of Recognition 9 (for continuing contribution) - Carl Boyd; Medal of Distinction (outstanding service or notable contribution at national level) - Helen Clark; Bar to Medal of Distinction (continuing outstanding work) - Seonaid McLaren, Iain Paul.
