LOCALLY based company Fireworx Scotland blew away the competition in the Scottish heat of the British Firework Championships in Edinburgh last weekend.
The Inverurie company beat off strong competition at the event held at Ocean Terminal, Leith. The competition, organised by The Event Services Association (TESA) and supported by Edinburgh City Council, served as one of five qualifying heats for the
finals.

The judging panel of experts awarded points for the range of fireworks used; the firing rhythm; the originality of the display design; and the overall effect of the display.

In addition, points were awarded for adherence to the rules; consistency with the firing order; crew competence; good site layout; compliance with submission deadlines and sportsmanship and behaviour on site.

The three participants in the Scottish heat were Fireworx Scotland, 21st Century Fireworks and reigning champions Blast Design Fireworks.
Each entrant was asked to produce a ten minute display and, Fireworx director Mark Copland stated that the competition judges were hugely impressed by their show.

He said: "It's the best show I've ever done. I really have to thank all my staff for all of their hard work. They put so much effort into the whole weekend. They watched the show, were chuffed to bits with how it went and there were lots of tears when the result was announced.

"There will be six teams in the national final and if we can manage to win the Scottish and British championships in the same year it would be absolutely great for the company."

Mark added that a large amount of business is likely to be generated as a result of the success of the show.

On hearing the news, Gordon MSP Alex Salmond wrote to Mark Copland to congratulate the company on its success.

Mr Salmond said: "It's always encouraging to hear of local successes such as this, and the success of Fireworx is a great tribute to the hard work of all the staff.

"I'm sure the whole community will be wishing them all the best for the finals, and continued success in the future."

Fireworx Scotland is now preparing for the final at Plymouth in August.
