Around the Aberdeenshire SWI meetings

Collieston and Slains SWI opened the year’s activities with a lively and enjoyable cookery demonstration by Rita Watson and Lorna Pirie (who also double as Grampian’s most delicious mass pancake producers).

They created the most delicious four-course meal in less than an hour. Added to this they kept us entertained with a stream of funny stories and witty repartee, then allowed us to taste and try portions of all the lovely food, and handed out the recipes so we could try it all out at home.

The evening’s business section included reports on the Ellon Flower Show results (second place in the Cooperative entry), a lively outing to Perth Races Ladies Day, and last year’s president Carol Proudlock’s visit to the SWI National Conference in Edinburgh on September 12, the theme of which was ‘Time for Change’.

Arrangements were discussed for our Soup and Pudding fundraiser on Sunday, October 25, tea and raffles followed and Nora Harper gave the vote of thanks for our entertaining and talented visitors.

The meeting on Monday, October 12, will be an illustrated talk entitled ‘HMP and YOI Grampian’.

At the first meeting of the new session of Kemnay SWI, members were treated to a marvellous display of some of Morna Munro from Premnay’s teapot collection. They were all shapes and sizes and each one had a story behind it.

The competition winners were: A Garden Photo in Summer - 1 Elma Adams; 2 Elizabeth Forrest; 3 Bess Whyte. A Jar of Strawberry Jam - 1 Eliizabeth Forrest; 2 Bess Whyte; 3 Alice Downie.

A welcome cup of tea was then served up from a teapot to Mrs Munro’s delight. Irene Tewnion gave the vote of thanks and Elizabeth wished everyone a safe journey home.
