Fetternear SWRI’s 94th birthday party in January was celebrated with a meal by Val Morrison and an evening of entertainment by members.

Elsie Murray welcomed John and Ellie Sorrie, from Ola Oils, who gave a talk and showed slides about the production of rapeseed oil and their expanding range of sauces, flavoured oils and soaps.

These are all available in their shop, The Green Grocer.

Started in 2008, the business has gone from strength to strength with a large range of mostly local produce.

Members had the opportunity to try some products with oils, sauces and soaps for sale.

Mr and Mrs Sorrie kindly judged the competitions. The results were as follows:

Flower of the Month - 1 Dorothy Grant; 2 Lorna Skea; 3 Margaret Salter.

3 Shortbread - 1 Margaret Salter; 2 Elsie Murray; 3 Elma Riddell.

Salad Dressing - 1 Margaret Salter; 2 Lorna Skea.

The New Zealand Trophy was won by Margaret Salter.

Elma Riddell read the letter from New Zealand, Iris Keith ran the raffle and a lovely tea was served by Elsie Murray and Juni Jardeneh.

Tickets for the Scotch Night on March 13 are now available from members.

The evening was brought to a close with a vote of thanks by Dorothy Grant.

President Mrs Helen Smillie opened the Esslemont SWRI’s January meeting by wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

She then welcomed guests “The Three Feels”, Charles, Lynn and Ron who provided the entertainment for the Scots Night.

Following this members had tea, then the raffle and Mrs Smillie gave the vote of thanks before the guests left.

The business meeting was then conducted.

Winners of the competitions were as follows:

“Small bottle of Liqueur” - 1st Jean Winterbottom; 2nd Anne Davidson.

4 Pieces of Fudge - 1st Jean Winterbottom; 2nd Anne Davidson; 3rd Linda Milne.

Mrs Smillie then wished everyone a safe journey home prior to closing the meeting.
