Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 58 prime cattle at Thainstone market on Thursday, January 23.

Under 30 month - Prime bullocks (five) averaged 207.8p and sold to 211p per kg for a 600kg Simmental from Whitehouse, Lumphanan and £1,619.50 gross for a Shorthorn from Wrangham, Colpy.

Prime heifers (38) averaged 215p and sold to 241p per kg and £1,494.20 gross for a 620kg Limousin from Cairncoullie, Glenkindie and was purchased by Backmuir Trading, Keith.

Young bulls (three) averaged 158.4p and sold to 159p per kg twice for a 560kg Aberdeen Angus from Worldsend, Maud and for a 990kg Charolais from Hindstones, New Aberdour which also realised the top gross price of £1,574.10 gross.

30 to 48 Month - Bullocks (one) sold to 217p per kg and £1,616.50 gross for a 745kg Charolais from Newcraig Farm, Oldmeldrum.

Heifers (11) averaged 180.5p and sold to 221p per kg and £1,458.60 gross for a 660kg Limousin from Crichie, Inverurie.

Beef cows (248) averaged 129.3p (-0.7p) and sold to 204.2p per kg for a 710kg British Blue and £1,475 gross for a 755kg Limousin from Balgairn Farms, Ballater.

Dairy cows (six) averaged 106.1p (-0.9p) and sold to 121.3p per kg and £995 gross for a 820kg Friesian from Upper Braiklay, Methlick.

Farrow bulls (six) averaged 114.3p (+2.4p) and sold to 122.1p per kg for a 1,040kg Limousin from Dinnet Farms, Aboyne and £1,470 gross for a 1,210kg Charolais from Stonedykes, Rhynie.
