An Aberdeenshire farm shop is putting breakfast in the spotlight as it takes part in a national campaign.
The Store, in Foveran, which has its own farm and butchery on-site, is supporting this year’s Farmhouse Breakfast Week.
The event, which has just finished, is organised by Home Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA) on behalf of UK cereal farmers and producers.
The aim is to celebrate and promote the importance of starting the day with breakfast.
The initiative, which is fronted by celebrity chef Phil Vickery, hopes to encourage people to recognise the health benefits of eating breakfast regularly, as well as raising awareness of the wealth of breakfast produce available in the local area.
In a recent survey conducted for Breakfast Week, it found that a worrying 25% of people are skipping the meal once or more during the week, with more than one in 10 (13%) never eating it.
Andrew Booth, owner and managing director of The Store, said: “It is a real shame that there is still a number of people skipping breakfast, especially when you consider the number of health benefits that you can get from just one meal.
“Breakfast supplies essential nutrients to kick-start your metabolism and energy for your body and brain throughout the day, as well as reducing stress levels, and improving your concentration and mood, which is important for children at school or adults at work.
“As a local producer and as Scotland’s year of food and drink takes place, we feel it is important to encourage people to think about the benefits of food.”
He added: “Taking part in Breakfast Week is an excellent way to raise awareness and educate people about the importance of a healthy breakfast, whilst also promoting the fantastic local breakfast products available.”

The Store, which rears and sells its own produce, is running a special breakfast menu each day throughout Breakfast Week.
