INVERURIE’S Élan Hair Design, which can lay claim to being the UK’s most eco-friendly hair salon, is hoping to end 2012 on a high after being shortlisted for the British Chamber Awards.
The Inverurie salon, which previously clinched the Sustainability honour at the Scottish event, will now compete against other regional winners in the UK-wide final, organised by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).
The Chamber Awards, hosted by award-winning BBC business and economics journalist Declan Curry, will take place on Thursday, November 29, at the Guildhall in London. Élan is one of three businesses from the North-east of Scotland to reach the British finals, while there is a prize of £25,000 for the overall winner.
Élan is also in the running for two environmental accolades. The salon has been nominated for a Green Butterfly Award by the Aberdeenshire Environmental Forum. The results will be announced at the organisation’s AGM on Wednesday, November 28 at Kemnay Academy.
Tonight, November 29, Élan will also be hoping for further success at the VIBES Awards, a leading environmental awards event which recognises best practice and promotes sustainable development. The salon is a finalist in the Energy and the Waste and Resource categories at the ceremony which will be held in Glasgow.
The Inverurie business has already won six industry awards and been nominated 19 times for honours this year.
Lorna Milton, owner of Élan Hair Design, said: “It’s been a remarkable year for the business and all our team. Representing Scotland in the Chamber Awards is a tremendous honour in its own right. Equally, the environmental awards are incredibly well regarded and it would be a fantastic achievement if we could win.
“The recognition we’ve received through the awards process has given us great confidence to push ahead with our eco-friendly business approach and add further green initiatives to the salon.”
The award winning business, which was established in 1971, currently has a team of 13.
