KINTORE has received another boost with news that retail giant Sainsbury’s has signed an agreement with local developer Castle Glen to open a branch of Sainsbury’s Local in the Midmill area of the town.

The new shop would be Sainsbury’s first in Aberdeenshire, and would form part of a new retail parade on the town’s Mid Mill, being developed by local developer Scott Strachan of Castle Glen

Investments.

And both parties say that it is hoped the new store, which would anchor the new development,

could (subject to planning) be open by early 2015, with the creation of up to 20 new full and part-time job opportunities.

The town has seen a huge increase in population over recent years, but residents have been vocal over the fact that amenities have not increased along with the population.

Commenting on the signing of the agreement between Sainsbury’s and Castle Glen, Andy Davies, Sainsbury’s Regional Acquisitions Manager said, “I am pleased to announce this agreement and the news that Sainsbury’s intends to open a new store in Kintore.

Aberdeenshire is somewhere we have long held a desire to have a Sainsbury’s and this should be a real vote of confidence for Kintore that this will be our first.’
