An Ellon company is celebrating winning a top business award.
The Aubin Group - suppliers of chemical solutions for the oil and gas sector - has received a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of international trade.
It is the UK’s highest accolade for business success.
Established in 1986, Aubin is based in Ellon’s Castlepark Industrial Estate and has subsidiaries in Dubai and Houston.
With the support of local partners, the firm now exports to more than 16 countries, across all the major oil and gas producing regions of the world, and has enjoyed an increase of more than 100 per cent in export earnings in the last three years.
Paddy Collins, Aubin’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. It is further testament to our team and our strive for excellence in oil and gas solutions both in the UK and globally.
“We have developed strong international partnerships over the years and more than 90 per cent of our business is with repeat customers.
“A number of our international customers have been with us for more than 25 years.
“Around a quarter of our staff work on research and development projects, a significant investment for a company of our size, and our customers appreciate that we are committing considerable resources to provide cost effective solutions for their operational challenges.”
The company commits resources to developing effective and reliable products and delivering these promptly to clients around the world.
It is a specialist supplier of cements and stimulation chemicals used in drilling and preparing wells for production, with the majority of its chemicals sold into growing markets in the Middle East.
The region accounts for 45% of Aubin’s sales and this year the company is also looking to start operations in the USA.
Aubin’s achievement was praised by local politicians as evidence of business strength in the area.
Ellon and District Councillor Rob Merson said: “I am pleased to congratulate Aubin on receiving the Queen’s Award for international trade.
“In so doing, they join a growing group of businesses in Aberdeenshire which has received such recognition.
“I trust that earning such a prestigious accolade will serve as an indication of the quality of product and service which this company can provide in what is an increasingly competitive market environment.” *
