INVERURIE’S Élan Hair Design, which can lay claim to being the country’s most eco-friendly salon, has won two prestigious awards.

The salon was named Outstanding Green Initiative in the Global Business Excellence Awards, with judges praising the business for “genuinely making a contribution to caring for the environment on a daily basis.”

And Élan also won the Excellence in Resource Management category for small businesses at the Scottish Waste and Resources Awards.

Eco-friendly Élan has been shortlisted for 13 awards in the past four months and other salons have contacted the company for advice on how to adopt its green ethos.

Lorna Milton, owner of Élan Hair Design, said: “We never thought it would be possible to win these national awards and we’re absolutely delighted. We’ve had tremendous support from local suppliers and our customers to bring our green dream to fruition.”

Last week the salon found out it will represent Scotland in the final of the Chamber Awards, held by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC). Élan is shortlisted in the sustainability award for the event at the Guildhall in London on Thursday, November 29 (2012). The business was also shortlisted for two awards at last week’s Scottish Green Awards – Best Green Small Company and the 20/20 Carbon Reduction Award. Additionally, Élan has been nominated in the green category for the Northern Star Business Awards.
