If you are the only person to have won all three Run Garioch events, how do you choose which one to enter next?

Garioch Roadrunner Carolyn Milne, who has won the Run Garioch 5k in 2014, the first-ever 10k in 2006 and the Half Marathon twice in 2011 and 2012, won’t be choosing. Instead she’ll be running all three on race day, Sunday March 22, in support of the British Heart Foundation.

Carolyn said: “I wanted to be part of this amazing community event, but couldn’t decide which race to do next. I was originally leaning toward the Dandara 10k since I won the first ‘Garioch 10k’ back in 2006 and this is its 10th anniversary year.

“But I also wanted to give something back to the wider community, so I decided to support the British Heart Foundation by running all three races. I chose the BHF since coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and I know it touches the lives of many families in our local area.”

Despite her amazing track record, Carolyn knows her challenge won’t be easy. “It’s over 22 miles in total, and I’ve not run that far for many years,” she said. “Training is going well, but I’ve been sticking to the flat to make it easier on my Achilles tendon. The hills will certainly give it a workout on the big day!”

She added: “I’m really looking forward to race day now. It’s just a few weeks away, but I know I can do the distance. I’m also encouraged by the hope of raising lots of money and joining all the other runners for a great day.

“The atmosphere is going to be amazing! I’ve always been impressed with how Run Garioch involves the schools and runners from all walks of life.”

Race Director Eric Simpson said: “Carolyn’s taking on a fantastic personal challenge and the fact that she’s doing it for the British Heart Foundation is just wonderful. Heart disease is devastating for so many families, and I’m proud that Run Garioch will be involved in the fight against it.

“I’m sure the whole of Inverurie will be supporting her on the day.”
