THERE was traffic congestion in Inverurie yesterday (Tuesday, April 9) after the A96 was temporarily closed following the discovery of a man’s body next to the River Don.
The grim discovery was made by a member of the public yesterday morning close to a path running alongside the Don.
The body of a male, believed to be in his 20s, was recovered by firefighters using specialist equipment.
The section of the A96 between the Port Elphinstone roundabout and the Blackhall Road roundabout, resulting in traffic being diverted through Inverurie town centre.
Fire crews from Aberdeen and Inverurie attended the incident and used specialist equipment for working on gradients to recover the body.
The A96 was closed to allow the firefighters safe access and to allow the recovery of the body in private.
The road re-opened at 10.45am. St James Place nect to the Don Bridge was also closed for a time.
Police have not released the name of the man, but say that there are no suspicious circumstances.
