PUPILS from Inverurie Academy’s “Bottle It “ Young Enterprise Team team were in Glasgow last week for the Scottish Finals of the Young Enterprise Scotland Awards 2013.
“Bottle It” from Inverurie were amongst the finalists having won their regional final with their upcycled glass products which proved popular with judges and competitors alike.
The event got off to a great start for the young company when guest speaker, Honorary Vice-President and hugely successful businessman Sir Tom Farmer took an interest in their product.
The day lasted from about 9am to 12 midnight on Tuesday (June 18).
The Academy team were unable to make it through to the UK finals, but won First Prize for “People’s Choice - Best Product”.
A delighted David Walls, the team’s Managing Director said, “It was a day to never forget, it was humbling listening to speeches from the likes of Sir Tom Farmer. The team’s hard work paid off as the business guests recognised our efforts over the past year.’
The evening continued to go well for the team of seven when they came third in the Best Presentation category. However, it was to be the ‘People’s Choice Award’ which proved the highlight of the evening. Voted for by the other young companies, the judges, YES staff and local business volunteers the ‘People’s Choice Award for Best Product 2013’ proved that Bottle It’s environmentally friendly products was the favourite amongst their peers. David added, “The best part of the Company Programme was seeing our business idea grow and develop throughout the year. The biggest challenge was when we had only 5 days to prepare over 100 glasses for a trade fayre after we sold out over a weekend. It’s been fantastic to win the regional finals and have success at the Scottish final too. The programme has shown me how business ideas can come from anywhere and how rewarding business can really be.”
