Inverurie Men’s Shed have presented a Friendship Bench to Meldrum Academy as a thank you for recent donations.

For the past few years pupils at the school have taken part in the Wood Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Initiative where they can win their chosen charity £3,000.

This past year has been unique in that the pupils were also given the opportunity to undertake this program of work last year in S2.

The winners this year also won last year, and Craig Jarvie, Max Wareing and Reece Cormack have made a strong connection with the Men’s Shed.

The pupils raised £600 themselves by doing a sponsored run and they have gifted £6,600 to the Men’s Shed to date and the boys are thinking of ways to raise even more money for the charity.

As a result of the strong bond and friendship that has developed between the boys and the charity, the Men’s Shed built a friendship bench in recognition of this and have presented to the academy.

It will take pride of place in the school, and be a reminder to all pupils about the importance of friendship and helping others.
