Inverurie student takes to the sand

A BUDDING engineer from Inverurie joined over 90 of her fellow students racing ‘land yachts’ across a stretch of Aberdeen’s coastline on Friday (April 13), achieving the second best performance time with her group ‘Team Draggin’.

Harley Ogg (20) from Inverurie, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at Robert Gordon University, and former Inverurie Academy pupil, was Chief Group Co-ordinator for ‘Team Draggin’, has been responsible for design decisions, creating construction schedules and managing the fabrication process. Harley and her classmates have been hard at work over the past three months designing, constructing and assembling their yachts as part of a student project aimed at encouraging mathematical, analytical and team working skills. Each land yacht had to complete a 150m lap time trial across the beach weaving through obstacles to test their manoeuvrability, brakes, steering and the pilot’s handling skills.
