MEMBERS of the Garioch Area Committee have backed plans for much need alterations and extension to Kemnay Academy.
At their meeting held on Tuesday, (June 19) the committee were asked to endorse a report to the Council’s Policy and Resources Committee, who meet today, June 21, recommending that and advancement in funding from later years to meet the estimated £11,655,200 needed to carry out the work. The remainder of the future budget will be put towards the future Kintore Academy.
At present the capacity of the academy is listed at 600, not including temporary accommodation, and the forecast roll for this year has risen to 726. This is projected to rise to 870 by 2016.
A four phase construction plan has been submitted, beginning with gymnasium with changing and shower facilities, equipment stores and a large plant room. The second phase would see traditional teaching accommodation in two storey block, which would include music studios, practice rooms and SFL accommodation. Phase Three would include temporary office accommodation in preparation for the final phase, the complete reconstruction of the administration area, a new entrance and atrium, management offices and staffroom.
