Udny Green oboe player, Christopher Smith, has been crowned as Meldrum’s Young Musician of the Year.

The annual contest is organised by the Rotary Club of Oldmeldrum and recently took place in Meldrum Academy.

It is open to pupils of all ages from primary one up to sixth year.

Christopher attends Aberdeen’s Albyn School and won his heat in the S4 to S6 section.

He will now represent the Oldmeldrum club in the Rotary District competition in Perth next February.

Winner of the Primary 1 to 4 section was Linden Stewart.

John McLaughlin won in the Primary 5 to 7 group.

Winner of the S1 to S3 category was Ruaraidh Williams.

Rhiannon Pirie was named as the most promising young musician.
