Tarves pupils have reached the next round of the Rotary Primary Schools Quiz, after winning their local heat.
Some 23 teams from primary schools in the Oldmeldrum area took part in the quiz at Meldrum Academy, organised by the Rotary Club of Oldmeldrum.
It was a record number of entries for the local heat and the assembly hall was full.
The quiz consisted of 10 rounds of six questions, covering a wide range of topics including geography, literature, science, history, famous people, current affairs and music.
Quizmasters were Meldrum Rotarian Hilary Gordon and husband Mick. A team of 14 Rotarians checked the answers and scores.
Barthol Chapel “B” and Rothienorman “B” were equal runners-up with a score of 99. However, the night belonged to Tarves “A” who triumphed with a score of 104.
President Richard Thomson presented each of the contestants with their certificates, before handing over individual trophies to the winning team, along with the Rotary Club Annual team shield.
Old Rayne team members were each presented with a small gift for having the best lucky mascot.
Tarves now go forward to the next round of the area heat when they will face winning teams from the Rotary clubs of Banff, Fraserburgh Peterhead, Central Buchan, Huntly, Turriff, Ellon, Inverurie, Kintore and Alford.
The event will be held at Meldrum Academy on Saturday, May 17. The winning team and runner-up will then go forward to the North of Scotland District Final, which will be held in Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom on Saturday, June 14.
