Neil Ross Square kicks off the festivities at 10am when Santa opens his grotto. With over 400 children to see, Santa has advised families to arrive in plenty time in order to avoid disappointment. Santa leaves at 3.30pm to prepare for the parade after 4pm.

Elf, Mark Grant, revealed that ‘the Square will be a hive of activity with a greater variety of entertainment than Santa has staged before’.

Various stalls, a bouncy castle and a children’s ride will be on offer throughout the day.

Buchan Community Radio will be on hand providing entertainment as well as live music from the Ythan Singers, Ythan Fiddlers and other local artists including an exercise session.

Community council chairman Sandy McDougall said: “We hope the people of Ellon will have an enjoyable, safe day to kick off their Christmas celebrations and we would like to thank the numerous local volunteers and donors who make the day a success.

“Please contribute generously to the collection on the day so that we can stage next year’s event.”

Ellon Primary School pupils Ewan Geddes and Sally Hughes will switch on the Christmas tree lights at the Chestnuts and Neil Ross Square at around 4pm leading on to Santa’s Parade at approximately 4.15pm.

Elf Alistair Walker said ‘due to the popularity of the event we have two new local groups in the parade this year to accompany Santa’.

A fireworks display at the riverside will see the event end on a high with crowds invited to meet on Market Street to view another display by Fireworx of Inverurie at 5pm.
