A public meeting was held in Newburgh on Monday night to explain to residents the decision to demolish the North Bridge due to its dangerous condition.
Formartine Area Committee decided last month to spend £30,000 taking down the landmark. It is estimated to cost around £500,000 to replace it.
Foveran Community Council secretary Glen Douglas, who attended the meeting, said later: “If the community can come up with an economic and sustainable solution to replace the bridge, then this will be considered by Aberdeenshire Council. The community council are appreciative of the assistance offered by the council’s area manager, and are currently investigating what options are available.”
