BIG-HEARTED staff at Kintore-based company have proved that charity fundraising can be a piece of cake, after raising over £650 for the Monty’s Maggie Appeal.
Staff from the Ferguson Group, which specialises in the rental of containers and accommodation and engineering modules to the offshore energy industry around the world, organised a bake-a-cake day, which saw staff bring in a variety of home baking, which they then sold to colleagues and local businesses to raise money for the cancer charity.
A team of eight members of staff representing each division of the Ferguson Group transformed one of the meeting rooms at the company’s HQ in Kintore into a cake shop for the day.
Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal is a partnership between golfer Colin Montgomerie’s charity ‘The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation’ and Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, which is raising the £3 million needed to bring a Maggie’s Centre to Aberdeen. The building will be a legacy to Colin’s mother Elizabeth, who died of cancer.
Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal is Ferguson Group’s chosen charity for 2012. Abereen is the only cancer treatment centre in Scotland which is not curerently supported by a Maggie’s centre. Maggie’s Aberdeen will support up to 40% of all new people diagnosed with cancer each year by the time the centre is 5 years old.
Hayley Yule, Ferguson Group Marketing Manager, hailed the success of the event, and pledged that it would be the first in a series of similar events.
“We plan to hold a bake-a-cake day every six months following the success of this fundraiser”, he said. “We are all delighted with the amount raised for such a worthy cause. The enthusiasm and support we had from all our colleagues was tremendous and everyone is looking forward to the next bake-a-cake day, which is scheduled for autumn.”
Sharon O Loan, Appeal Director, Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal said: “The enthusiasm, creativity and drive of the Ferguson Group staff has overwhelmed us.
“Their obvious commitment to playing a part in making sure that our new Maggie’s Centre at The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation Building is open as soon as possible is evident in the results of their fundraising. We are extremely grateful to everyone who made this such a successful event.”
