Registration is now open for the popular ‘10 Weeks to Run Garioch’ Training Programme organised by the Garioch Sports Centre.

Race Director Eric Simpson confirmed a number of changes to this year’s arrangements, including a new partnership with jogscotland Kintore.

Eric said, ““We’re delighted to be able to offer runners of all abilities a wider choice of training options in 2015. All our programmes will continue to be delivered by experienced coaches, and will help runners get ready to take on Run Garioch no matter what their current level of fitness or race goals.”

The Inverurie 5k programme will be based at the Garioch Sports Centre on Wednesdays (10am–11am) and Saturdays (9.30am–10.30am). A crèche service will be available for both sessions at a cost of £2.50 per child. The Kintore group will meet on Wednesdays (7.15pm) and Saturdays (8.15am). Both 5k training programmes will start on Saturday, 10 January.

Budding 10k runners will also have a choice of two programmes this year. The Inverurie group will be led by coaches from Garioch Gazelles jogscotland and leave from the Garioch Sports Centre on Mondays (6.15pm), Thursdays (6.15pm) and Saturdays (9am). The first day of training is Monday, 12 January.

Jogscotland Kintore will take their 10k runners out on Wednesdays (7.15pm) and Saturdays (9am). Their first day of 10k training is Saturday, 10 January.

Training for experienced runners keen to move up to or improve their performance in the Half Marathon will be delivered by the Inverurie-based Garioch Roadrunners for the fourth year in a row. Their sessions will be held Tuesdays (6.30, GSC) and Thursdays (6.45, Garioch Rugby Club), with a long run Saturday morning from a different start point each week. The first night of Half-Marathon training will be Tuesday, 13 January.

All Inverurie-based 10k and Half-Marathon training sessions must be booked in cash in advance at the Garioch Sports Centre at a cost of £20 for the 10-week block.

The Inverurie-based 5k programme can be paid for as a block (£20) or ‘pay as you go’ (£2 per session).
