there is a certain air of excitement among the art world as artists prepare for Inverurie’s popular annual Gordon Art Exhibition which will open tomorrow (Friday).

The team of organisers have been busy this week, receiving the 400 or so exhibits in a variety of different mediums by artists from all over the Shire.

Headed up by Marian Reid, Jacqui Maconnachie and Neil Russel, they and their numerous volunteer helpers had hung all the pictures, displayed the three-dimensional exhibits, numbered them all and produced the catalogue, all in time for yesterday’s judging. Results will be announced tonight (Thursday) at the private view and prize-giving.

Speaking about the quality of entries, Neil said: “Entries are well up to the usual standard this year.”

Marian said there had been a good response to the ‘special’ theme this year entitled ‘movement’. She said: The theme has lent itself to a lot of different entries. The thing about it is that you are always surprised at the amasing variety that you get.”

Jacqui added: “This year we seem to have attracted more three-dimensional entries than usual and we always have a solid entry in textiles. The junior section is of a high standard too, especially the photography.”

The exhibition opens on Friday at 10am.
