MSP calls for action on new Inverurie Health Centre

SCOTTISH Conservative MSP for the North East, Nanette Milne has launched a campaign to deliver the new Inverurie Health Centre and Community Maternity Unit. The North East MSP who is to visit the current Inverurie Medical Centre on January 21, is leading the campaign to secure the £7 million NHS Grampian needs from SNP Ministers to build the new Inverurie Health Centre and Community Maternity Unit.

The North East MSP has called on local residents in Inverurie and across Aberdeenshire to show their support for a new Inverurie Health Centre and Community Maternity Unit to be built by emailing or writing to the First Minister to show the level of community feeling on this issue.

Dr Milne said, “I have been campaigning to secure the investment needed to deliver the new Inverurie Health Centre and Community Maternity Unit over a number of years and I am determined that SNP Ministers are held to account and keep their promise to deliver the funding to NHS Grampian to take forward the proposal.

“With the significant growth in the population in Inverurie and following the decision by SNP Ministers in 2010 to claw back capital funding from NHS Grampian to cover the cost of the new southern general hospital in Glasgow – the need to deliver the Inverurie Health Centre and Community Maternity Unit has become a major priority.

“Following the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, when the UK Conservative Government provided SNP Ministers with £331m in extra capital funding to deliver projects such as the Inverurie Health Centre and Community Maternity Unit, The SNP Scottish Government has gone silent on delivering the projects they have been calling for.

“The First Minister stated prior to the Autumn Statement that “these significant projects including the Inverurie Health Centre and Community Maternity Unit, could get under way now, rather than being delayed”. Now that the UK Government has given the SNP Scottish Government the funding needed, we see nothing but dither and delay. Increasingly questions are being asked on whether or not the SNP will deliver these projects.”

She added, “It is clear that there is an overwhelming need to see major investment in health services for Inverurie and surrounding communities and I would encourage local people to email or write to the First Minister to show the level of community feeling on this issue and to demand that he keeps his promise to deliver this project.”
