Run Garioch says thank you to sponsor
Garioch Sports Centre issued a cheque for the sum of £500 last week, which was presented to the Ferguson Group, Kintore, who in turn donated the money to Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal.
Ferguson Modular, a division of the Ferguson Group that specialises in the rental of containers, accommodation and engineering modules to the offshore energy industry around the world, were a major sponsor for the 10k Run Garioch in 2011. The £500 award came by way of a thank you from Garioch Sports Centre due to the company’s support of the annual charity event that will run its seventh event in 2012.
Commenting, Garioch Sports Centre general manager, Stuart Gordon said: “Run Garioch was set up to encourage the people of Aberdeenshire to get fit. With the funds raised, we like to give something back and as Fergusons Group were a brand new, and very welcome sponsor last year, we thought we’d support their own chosen charity, which is the Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal in 2012.
“Without the support of local businesses and all the volunteers that have helped run the race since it began in 2006, the race simply couldn’t go ahead, so we were really grateful to them.”
Gary Wilson, Ferguson Modular Director of Business Development, took part in the run last year. He presented the cheque to Nicola Watson from Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre, along with Stuart Gordon of the Garioch Sports Centre.

The Ferguson Group employs more than 150 people worldwide through its divisions serving the offshore container rental and accommodation modules markets. The group, based in the heart of the Garioch, has operations in all major global oil and gas locations.
Aberdeen is Scotland’s third largest cancer treatment centre but is the only clinical centre in Scotland not supported by Maggie’s.
The centre will play an essential role. It aims to bring joy and instil hope, helping people not to lose the joy of living in the fear of dying. Each Maggie’s centre is distinctive and different, yet each offers the same informal, comfortable surroundings that make it easy for those dealing with the trauma of cancer to engage with our professional help and connect with others going through a similar experience.
It aims to be a place where people feel valued, safe and able to take their time as they deal with the isolation and despair of a cancer diagnosis.
Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal is a partnership between Colin Montgomerie’s Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation and Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, which is raising the £3million to bring Maggie’s to Aberdeen. The building will be a legacy to Colin’s mother Elizabeth.
