Ice cold in Daviot

Hardy Kintore Scouts camping last weekend at Daviot

AS icy blasts swept North-east Scotland at the weekend and winter finally struck with vengeance, brave Scouts from Kintore were under canvas at Daviot!

In their pursuit of the Scottish Scouts Zodiac Award, where Scouts spend one night per calendar month for a total of eight (bronze) to ten (gold) months in the year under canvas, bivouac or bothy and complete a number of special challenges, Kintore are committed to camping throughout the year, in all seasons irrespective of the weather. At Daviot, the Scouts camped out near the ancient stone circle and partook in archery, drone-copter flying, and backwoods cooking with hare and pheasant. They also enjoyed a full Christmas dinner with trimmings and were treated to a surprise visit from Santa and his elves. All present notched up a couple more nights under canvas and gained a further merit. A special distinction bestowed on only the most hardy of campers, the Sub-Zero Hero badge. A special badge printed by Kintore themselves to reward their Scouts who sleep out in the snow and ice.
