THE Inverurie Best Garden 2011 Awards will be presented on Saturday, September 3, from 2pm in Inverurie Town Hall at the annual Inverurie Flower Show.

Ranald Allan, Chairman of the competition organisers, Inverurie Environmental Improvement Group, said, “The standard of entries was extremely high, as always which made judging hard. The final numbers of entries was up on last year and we hope numbers will continue to increase.”

the guest judge for the competition was Damon Powell, Head of Gardening at the National Trust for Scotland’s Castle Fraser.

“I was most impressed with the high standard of entries,” said Damon, “the gardens reflect great effort and it was particularly difficult to single out winners in some categories.

“Having the Highly Commended and Commended Awards means that the recognition of quality, imagination and effort can be broadened.”

The overall Inverurie Best Garden 2011 winners and also winners of the Large Garden section were Mr and Mrs Middleton, 3 Cunninghill Avenue.

The Small Front Garden winner, at the first time of entering, was James “Ian” Thomson of 8 Golf Walk, and winner of the Hanging Basket or Container section was another new-entrant, June Skinner, of 12 Garden Court.
