AN Inverurie woman is due to step on fire to raise funds for people with learning disabilities and additional support needs. Karen Norval, of Inverurie, will walk across hot coals at local disability charity Inspire’s annual Firewalk event on Monday, November 5, as part of Team Toubkal.

Karen explained, “I got involved with Inspire’s Firewalk through our Choi Kwang Do coach at St. Margaret’s School, Nadine Thomas. She told me about it and I said I would love to join her in the Firewalk. My school has already raised about £300 for Inspire through a ‘dress as you please’ day and a third year lunchtime fundraiser. The Firewalk is a great personal challenge and certainly ties in well with the theme of the Toubkal adventure! It’s an exciting event, and all sponsorship raised goes towards Inspire’s innovative range of services, which make a real difference to the lives of the people they support. Looking forward to it and bring on the fire!”

Team Toubkal at the Firewalk is led by Alan Stott, 37, who faces an adventurous and strenuous climb to the summit of Toubkal, the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains at 13,671 feet and in the process raising a target of £13,671, a pound per foot, for the charity.

To sign up for the event, people are asked to contact Inspire Head Office on (01224) 280005, email fundraising@inspireonline.org.uk, or visit www.inspireonline.org.uk.
