The team at Stewart Milne Homes’ Wellside Brae development is setting out to launch a fund raising campaign in aid of the company’s preferred charity of the year, Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres.

The team is calling on the Kemnay community to join in its current appeal with Colin Montgomery to help raise the £3m required to introduce a cancer care facility in Aberdeen.

Discussions are currently under way to find activities that put the ‘fun’ into fundraising and the team is keen for everyone to get involved with ideas and suggestions, whether it be a village-wide bake-off or even a slave auction of local husbands!

John Low, managing director of Stewart Milne Homes North Scotland, commented: “The company’s charity of the year is selected by staff working together to establish and lead the campaign.

“With cancer affecting one in three people, it is an issue close to many hearts. The work of Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres is truly outstanding, recognising that living with cancer is a challenge faced not only by the patient, and providing all manner of help and support – no matter how small – to those that need it.

“We are delighted to get involved with such a worthwhile cause and, with the help of the local community, hope to really make a difference to the charity and have some fun at the same time.”

Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres is an independent charity providing free practical, emotional and psychological support to anyone affected by cancer. There are currently seven facilities across Scotland, with an eighth set for Aberdeen via Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal with Colin Montgomerie. They complement the work of the NHS with a network of independent cancer caring centres. Colin Montgomerie said: “When I first visited a Maggie Centre I knew that this was the sort of place that would have been so useful to my mother and my family. I am delighted to be working with them to increase their network of support. No one affected by cancer should have to suffer alone and by making this campaign a success we will be moving closer to that goal.
