Kintore Rotary make Alice their ‘Citizen of the Year’

Kintore Rotary Club have made ‘Citizen of The Year’ award has been presented to Mrs Alice Downie, whom the club has deemed to have gone above and beyond the call of duty in serving her community.

Alice, who moved to Kemnay in 1969, is an active member of Kemnay SWRI. She delivers the Kemnay Newsletter, which is printed by her husband Duncan. She is a volunteer at the local Day Care Centre which meets on two days every week in the Village Hall and is actively involved with the Day Centre Friends Group. She is also involved in local church life and leads a team of flower arrangers at Kemnay Church.

Duncan and Alice also run the local Funeral Undertakers business of James Downie and Sons and Alice assists at Church Memorial Services, handing out hymn sheets and making sure that members of the congregation are well looked after and supported.

Mrs Mavis Wainman MBE, who nominated Alice for this award, said “she ‘oils the wheels of life in Kemnay”.

At a meeting of the Rotary Club of Kintore at Thainstone House Hotel, members watched with pleasure as Alice was presented with a beautiful silver platter, which she will “proudly display” for a year. She was also presented with a small platter as a keepsake.
