President Eileen Brown welcomed members and friends to the February meeting of New Deer SWRI.
Business was dealt with and Nancy Rennie gave a detailed account of the group report.
Speaker Philip Morrison from Rizzas Ice Cream, Huntly, was then introduced.
He told members about the history of the family business.
His grandfather James, along with his brother Dominic, came from Italy in 1860 and started up business in Mid Street, Keith, in 1914.
They sold ice-cream in the summer months and had fish and chip shops for the winter.
They now have 33 employed in the business, selling fifty different flavours of ice cream.
A most interesting talk by a very able speaker and much appreciated by those at the meeting.
Competition results were as follows:
Lasagne - 1st Nancy Rennie; 2nd Ethel Dalgarno.
Holiday Souvenir - 1st Ethel Dalgarno; 2nd Eileen Morrice; 3rd Anne Dickinson.
Flower of the Month - 1st Eileen Morrice.
Tea was served and Anne Dickinson gave the vote of thanks.
Unfortunately, an untimely snowfall forced the cancellation of Culsalmond SWRI’s February meeting.
Renewed apologies to our speaker, Anne Pirie, and we hope she will be available to come along at a later date.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, March 5, at 7.30pm in Culsalmond CEC.
Members will hear from William Copeland, who will be giving a talk on Spring Flowers.
