the news that Inveramsay Bridge has received a funding commitment has met with the approval of councillors and politicians alike. The bottle neck caused by the current traffic light system seems to be well on the way to being resolved.

First Minister, Alex Salmond welcomed Transport Minister Keith Brown’s confirmation and commented: “I am delighted at the Scottish Government’s announcement that £5 million is to be awarded to carry out the vital improvements at Inveramsay Bridge.

“This is an essential link to communities across the North east and greatly affects those entering and leaving my constituency, with increased journey times and lengthy delays.

“As MSP for Aberdeenshire East, I welcome this funding for the bridge and look forward to the work commencing.”

Leader of Aberdeenshire Council, Anne Robertson said Aberdeenshire Council had been keen to see the project progressed and added: “I welcome the priority that has now been given to the scheme by the Transport Minister.

“I am particularly pleased that the aim is to deliver this project within the current parliamentary term and look forward to further development of the scheme.

West Garioch Councillor, Allison Grant was also delighted at the news: “This represents real progress over a very short period of time since the SNP Government came to power.”

After the announcement, Transport Minister Keith Brown commented: “We recognise the enormous role that Scotland’s strategic road network plays in improving journey times, relieving congestion and making our roads even safer.

“Five million is being invested towards the £12-15 million Inveramsay Bridge to ensure that work on an an improved structure can begin. This funding will go a significant way towwards funding the construction costs for the scheme. While this is subject to completion of the statutory process, the works will remove the need for the existing traffic signals, remove congestion and reduce delays.”
