Inverurie played host to more than 750 keen Twilight Walkers on Friday (May 9) all raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

The fund-raising event has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and this year, Angie Shearer, one of the event organisers, was delighted to announce on the night, that more than £47,000 had been raised this year, so far.

Angie said, “The community spirit once again was outstanding and we are extremely grateful to everyone who took part and raised such an incredible amount of money towards Cancer Research UK’s life saving work!

“The fundraising efforts and the atmosphere on the night was incredible. We are extremely lucky to have the continued support of The Garioch Sports Centre so we can continue to host the walk year after year, in addition the support of J.G Ross as our Platinum Sponsor who also donated 800 cupcakes, our Silver Sponsor Denholm MacNamee Ltd and our Bronze Sponsor Huntly Vehicle Care Centre. A special mention must go to our wonderful volunteers on the night whom we couldn’t do without!”

Graeme Ross of Platinum Sponsors, J G Ross, whose special cupcakes raised an additional £140 prior to the event, said, “We were delighted to be able to sponsor the Twilight Walk again this year. We would like to pay tribute to everyone who worked so hard in the planning, organising and marshalling on the night to ensure the event ran smoothly. There is such a fantastic spirit among the volunteers and participants and everyone I spoke to said they felt a real buzz at the end.

“This event truly epitomises community fund-raising. There were people of all age groups there and it was good to see a few more guys there this year.

“We will be back next year, hope you will too, if you haven’t been before, sign up for next year, you will be glad you did.”
