TWO Inverurie teachers have been honoured at national level - thanks to one of their pupils.
Shona Fromholc and Janette Lind, of Kellands Nursery, received one of the Haemophilia Society’s inaugural Buddy Awards after being nominated by five year old Joshua Bramman.
They were presented with the award at a ceremony in London on Monday (February 13) hosted by children’s television presenters Dick and Dom.
Shona and Janette were put forward in the teacher/teaching assistant category for their support given to Joshua.
The youngster suffers from Severe Haemophilia A and the Buddy Awards were created to recognise the vital support provided by the families, friends and carers of children who have to cope with the everyday challenges that bleeding disorders can involve.
They are also designed to draw public attention to the plight of this vulnerable patient group.
Joshua’s mother Kay said: “Joshua’s nursery teachers have been so wonderful and supportive to Joshua and his family.
“They have always looked out for him and been willing and keen to learn all about haemophilia and know what to do when he has a fall or a bleed.”
She added: “They remain calm and reassuring and I can be sure that my son is safe.”
The Haemophilia Society paid for the flights for the teachers, Kay, Joshua and his sister Lauren, but Inverurie Round Table and Garioch Lions donated funds to pay for their accommodation in London.
The Haemophilia Society’s Chris James said: “It was a happy day for all who took part. The youngsters had a great time and, just as importantly, it gave their families and their carers the opportunity to get to know each other and swap experiences and information.”
The awards were followed by a family day out at Regent’s Park Zoo.
